Light on, in the attic, there's no mystery in that Burn on, midnight lovers, there's no mystery in that Static cuts through nothing, now you stalking your lover's eyes There's no mystery in my motives, I want what I need Don't you think about why Why, Why, Why... I love a good celebration and a jealous woman Makes my jaw tighten up, shivers down my spine There's no mystery in my motives, I want what I need Don't you think about why Why, Why, Why... Light on, in the attic, there's no mystery in that Burn on, midnight lovers, there's no mystery in that.

Standing on the highway ramp, underneath the moon Reeling from the Beam and Cokes and the serving spoon El Dorado stops and waits, I climb in Where am I going, what am I getting myself in? Fall into a comfy seat, turning with my hand Extended to the demon who, who's a lonesome man Whatcha doin out so late, you got a girlfriend? This could get ugly, he wants to touch my skin Ooooh, the marriage of an old friend Ooooh, I bargain with a dead man Run into the Circle K, trying to find my head Everything seems hazy now, I'd love to find my bed He let me off near the alley, about a mile from home I've never felt better, about being alone Ooooh, the marriage of an old friend Ooooh, I bargain with a dead man Time to bargain with the moonbeams, this'll be alright I got to think on my feet, I'm heading home tonight From an old fashioned Southern feast, a cochon de lait Drop me off at the next exit, I will be ok Ooooh, the marriage of an old friend.

Dogs 04:16
Out in the front yard dog is tied to post, he stands and barks at the road His name is Jones, black and white and brown, he stands and barks at the road He'd share his home if Justin came around, they'd stand and howl at the road 1,200 miles and still he hasn't found, no longer bark at the road Sun gonna rise no matter what, no matter what you do or what you say You can feel real low down, sun gonna come up either way Out by and old shed, Jones can be found, he stands and stares at the yard The noise he makes it is his one true friend, he stands alone in the yard The city's hot on this side of town, he's tired of watching the cars The dreams he hides can keep his heart alive, he's just trying to survive Sun gonna rise no matter what, no matter what you do or what you say You can feel real low down, sun gonna come up either way He's just trying to survive.

I was living on the beach in the Luperon, trying to find new ways to get it on So pop another pill and raise your glass, hold onto tomorrow, today won't last Luperon Nites, Luperon Nites... (Oh this old thing, I found it up in the mangroves, like an old toy somebody just threw away, yeah, we made it into something, I dunno an old bike tire or milk jug or something, go on and send it, airmail.)

Buzzards 05:07
If I were a buzzard, I'd be picking on the bones And if I were a hunter, I'd be going home alone My dreams, my dreams Strange celebration, festival of lights Lit by the embers of a thousand lost nights My dreams, my dreams My dreams

about

This album represents my collaboration with songwriter, engineer, jazz musician and studio owner Caleb Willitz. I met Caleb when I decided my guitar work was getting a bit stale, so I started taking lessons from him. The lessons were held in his studio, a giant warehouse space he calls Rattlesnake Studio. After about two lessons we started talking about songwriting and this collaboration was born.

We've worked closely on this project and his contributions can be heard all over it. I also worked with drummer Chris Dye who plays in one of my favorite Chicago bands, Speck Mountain. I was a fan of the band and contacted Chris and he obliged and now I count him as a friend.

Engineer Jake Westermann (and my longtime amigo) came in for the first few sessions and made sure the drums were high and tight.

This new recording will be a split EP, with my tunes on one side and Caleb's on the other. Caleb's side of the album is called "The Day Will Come" and features five of his tunes, some fully produced and others so stripped down you can literally hear the L Train just outside his studio window.
