about

I was sitting at Kristin's house looking at some chickens we had drawn on a notepad and the lyrics, "chickens on a pad" came out. The church bells from the Greek Orthodox church down the street rang so the lyric "church bells outside" followed, it was a Friday night, hence the first verse. The rest came out quickly after that first verse.

Rusty (keys) played a beautiful mellotron sounding keyboard part which came out of nowhere but fit in nicely with everything else. Engineer Jake Westermann (who also co-produced the record) came up with the 12-string acoustic part on the chorus, which was cool, because I would've never played that kind of rhythm. Well done Jake!

lyrics

Chickens on a pad, church bells outside
oh what it means on Chicago Friday night
A Cold Sun won't shine

I can't tell a story if I can't find my brain
Cause fortune and glory can't be sustained
And I yearn for love, but I wallow in lust
The humor can't guide me back, I may as well fall out love

A Cold Sun won't shine

You probably don't realize you tore me apart
That's okay my friend, you've got to follow, you got to follow
you got to follow your own heart

A Cold Sun won't shine.
