Ha! This song is about the time I tried to hitchhike in Shreveport, LA after a wedding party. This monstrous looking guy picked me up on the interstate, telling me he “was so lonely” and “just driving around looking for something to do”. It was scary, he was scary, it was a horrible decision to get in his car (an old beater car) and I was drunk. He asked me if I was drunk, I said no. He got about a mile from my house and when he stopped, I took off running.
lyrics
Standing on the highway ramp, underneath the moon
Reeling from the Beam and Cokes and the serving spoon
El Dorado stops and waits, I climb in
Where am I going, what am I getting myself in?
Fall into a comfy seat, turning with my hand
Extended to the demon who, who's a lonesome man
Whatcha doin out so late, you got a girlfriend?
This could get ugly, he wants to touch my skin
Ooooh, the marriage of an old friend
Ooooh, I bargain with a dead man
Run into the Circle K, trying to find my head
Everything seems hazy now, I'd love to find my bed
He let me off near the alley, about a mile from home
I've never felt better, about being alone
Ooooh, the marriage of an old friend
Ooooh, I bargain with a dead man
Time to bargain with the moonbeams, this'll be alright
I got to think on my feet, I'm heading home tonight
From an old fashioned Southern feast, a cochon de lait
Drop me off at the next exit, I will be ok
Ooooh, the marriage of an old friend.
